Flu Vaccine

Generic name: Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion, Inactivated)
Brand Names: VaxigripTM by Sanofi Pasteur

How is it given?

Intramuscular thigh or deltoid area, subcutaneously for patients with bleeding problems
How many times is it given?
                For 6 months to 7 year old kids: 2 shots at least one month apart initially, then, one shot yearly
                For 8 year old kids to adults: 1 shot yearly
When is it given?
                Anytime 6 months onwards.
What are common complications?
                Fever, headache, muscle, or joint pain, sweating, swelling and redness on the site, allergic reaction (rare complication)
Why do you need to receive the vaccine yearly?
                Because the strain differs yearly
